What is a backlink?

It is a link from somebody else’s website to your website.

Why do I need backlinks?

Major search engines like Google view a link from somebody else’s website to your website like a positive word-of-mouth recommendation. (if your website is any good then people would be talking about it right and that’s done via links)

Are all backlinks good?

NO!

How many types of backlinks are there?

There are many different types of links to many to go into detail in this short basic tutorial but not all links are equal.

What is domain authority?

Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how important or likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). DA0-10 is not good, DA100 is best and there is DA1-DA99 in between.

What is it about a backlink that is important?

It’s not only a high DA but also It’s what the linked text says

What is a keyword?

It is what somebody types into Google to search for example “chocolate cake recipe”

So all I have to do is get lots of links with my keyword?

Absolutely not! Every keyword has its own recipe for example if you sell lawn mowers your key word would likely be “lawn mowers” an example of a recipe for that keyword could be 15% Part of the key word EG: Lawn 1% whole keyword and 84% no keyword at all, like “more info” the only way to know what recipe Google has set for your keyword is to look at your competitors that rank number one on Google and that’s what we do, very few SEO companies do this, they know linking is important but they do it blindly without a recipe and that is simply a waste of money.

How many backlinks do I need to beat my competitors?

Very difficult to say for example if your competitor has 1000 backlinks but with an average DA5 then maybe 50 to 100 links with a DA mix of 40 to 100 can do it, it is important not to do it all at once but slowly over time, so a monthly budget is important.

How fast can you make me rank number one?

Depends on many different things like the age of your website if it’s less than a year and a half old you’ll have to wait that amount of time so be patient you can build it up slowly, if your website is older than one and a half years then it depends on your competitors and how many links they have and how difficult your keyword is, are millions of people trying to get to number one for the same key word and of course your budget, a big budget does things faster, so a real life example is needed here, we got 10 highly competitive keywords to rank No.1 in Google about 10 months but these are very difficult keywords as in the competitors have quite a lot of money to throw at the same keywords however business has more than doubled since we have achieved that.
